Freestyle of the week - Gucci Mane

Whether you know him as Guwop, Big Cat La Flare or Trap God, Gucci Mane is indeed a figure known to all current rap and hip-hop fans. After being released from house arrest in September, La Flare has wasted no time putting his freedom to use with his successful October release of Woptober. In fact, the album established him as the second person ever to make the Billboard 200 solely from album streams.

Clouded by his tremendous commercial success, many have forgotten or have yet to recognize his merit as a lyricist from his countless freestyles throughout the years. Thus, for educational purposes, Gucci’s classic footage with Hood Affairs T.V. is our chosen freestyle of the week. Taking place somewhere off the iconic Glenwood Road by Club Libra, Gucci spits off the top bars alongside fellow Atlanta rappers OJ Da Juiceman, DG Yola and Kourtney Money. As an added bonus, the footage also contains appearances from a young Waka Flocka and the recently deceased Shawty Lo. While not usually labeled as a lyrical rapper, Gucci’s career of consistency and creativity has easily established him as one of the best rap artists from the South, and has the freestyle résumé and discography to prove it. Watch the freestyle below, or take a listen to it on SoundCloud.
