Champions - Kanye West
It has been a prolific year for Kanye West. West released The Life of Pablo in February while also promoting his Yeezy brand via Adidas. Along with many solid features over the past two years, the public has witnessed somewhat of a Kanye rebirth. It has been four years since the release of GOOD Music's Cruel Summer. Today, West released the first single from the sequel album Cruel Winter.
The song features hip-hop heavyweights Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Big Sean, Yo Gotti, Quavo and Desiigner. The beat is saturated in Scott's signature sound with Kanye's personal twist. Kanye raps briefly, but the rest of the features carry the weight of the track. In his brief verse, Kanye informs us that he is now debt-free, has returned to rule the game again. Travis Scott and Quavo both deliver catchy hooks, while Big Sean, 2 Chainz and Yo Gotti drop solid verses.
Fresh out of prison, Gucci Mane gives Kanye two verses for this track. It seems like Kanye is paying homage to Gucci Mane by allowing him to rap those two lines, and also grants him the final verse. It has been rumored that Kanye is a big Gucci fan (see below) so it is satisfying to see Gucci do his thing on the track. If Cruel Winter sounds anything like this track, I expect it to be another success for Kanye West this year.
