For those of you who don't know Milky Chance, you just have never used your damn thumbs on your semi-attached smartphone. This band has low-key been on the radio constantly for the last several years. That’s not a dig by any means, because I genuinely appreciate these guys. Not only do I appreciate their German folk, semi-electronic music, but their hustle is impeccable. The original two members met in 2012 in the city of Kassel, Germany, at the Jacob-Grimm-Schule (school in German). Originally starting as a jazz quartet, the band found itself without a drummer after a short time.
The original two, Clemens Rehbein and Phillipp Dausch, Rehbein being the lead vocalist and guitarist and Dausch being the DJ/producer, kept up through their musical connection and gained a following on YouTube and SoundCloud. As that audience grew, they produced the single “Stolen Dance” in April 2013 which won them Best Single at the 1Live Krone Award Show. Consistent with their mellow, folksy, upbeat spin on the German music scene they released their album Sadnecessary in 2014. In 2015, that album won Best Album at the European Border Breakers Awards, and they gained a guitarist, Antonio Greger.
Yes, the have a questionable name and honestly I’m perverted enough to think it has to do something with sex, but their music is damn good. They’ve released four singles since their first album, which will all be on their upcoming album Blossom, which is being released on most music platforms April 17, 2017. I, for one, am looking forward to it considering three of their four current singles are among their top 5 most listened to on Spotify. This band originated less than five years ago and gained enough fame to be know all over the world with two complete tours to date: one in the United States and one in Europe. They’ve even played at the coveted Coachella . . . OMG white girls.
With an already scheduled European tour for their upcoming album, I see radiating confidence and success for this trio. I mean, I still have the acoustic rhythmic beat stuck in my head from their track “Flashed Junk Mind,” so I’m kind of screwed if this album is anywhere as good as Sadnecessary. Let’s pray for my sanity, but I guess I’ll pray for my mental instability because I want this album to top the charts.
Thanks for playing. @SandwichTime520
