Candler Park Music and Food Festival

With the emergence of summer comes every Atlanta native's favorite activity - festival season. The Candler Park Music and Food Festival kicks off this weekend and promises to have the Terrapin flowing, tunes bumping and food to tempt your taste buds. This year, as always, will be an event for all ages, attracting everyone from creatives to the most selective food connoisseurs. For the more active bodies in the crowd, there will be adult field games as well as the Saturday morning 5k at 8:30am. This year the festival gates open at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2 and 12:00 pm on Saturday, June 3. Adult tickets cost $25 for General Admission and $80 for VIP, while children under 12 are permitted free entry if accompanied by an adult ticket-holder. We, of course, are most excited for the lineup of incredible bands, and you can be sure to find us in the front row all weekend long.

4 Acts we're excited to see:

With a mission to make "music that can still shake the earth," Ripe reaches into the past and future to create a timeless sound. The Boston natives have been touring nationwide and have brought their groove to every one of their performances. The seven-piece funk band released a cover of Ellie Goulding's hit single "On My Mind" earlier this year, and the music video gives you a taste of what to expect this weekend. The energy, the live instruments, the fun and joyful funkiness makes us antsy to see their live performance at 6:00 PM on Friday.

Words don’t even explain how excited we are to see Matisyahu perform this weekend. Between his informative, inspiring, and peaceful lyrics and his positive authentic image, Matisyahu creates an environment where all ages can enjoy. His hit single “One Day” perfectly emulates this message, but since this song Matisyahu has changed his image. In 2011, he cut his trademark beard and in 2012 he dyed his hair blonde. Now the clean shaved has rebranded himself and plans to continue to spread his encouraging message.

The Marcus King Band

The Marcus King Band is a "soul-influenced psychedelic southern rock" band from Greenville, South Carolina. The band consists of Marcus King (Lead Singer and Guitarist), Jack Ryan (Drums), Stephen Campbell (Bass), Justin Johnson (Trumpet, Trombone), Matt Jennings ( Organ, Keyboards), and Dean Mitchell (Saxophone). 20 year old, Marcus King is the bandleader and songwriter and his maturity is beyond his age. He says "the majority of our songs are specific to situations I've lived," and with each husky warble his passion for his craft is shown. The band's recently released self-titled album combines each members' unique sound and is a reflection of their influences. We can't wait for them to perform this album, especially "Rita is Gone."

Lake Street Dive Band

Lake Street Dive is a Boston-born band whose music incorporates jazz, funk, and soul with an overarching fun pop sound. The band consists of Rachael Price (vocals), Bridget Kearney (upright bass), Mike "McDuck" Olson (trumpet, guitar), and Mike Calabrese (drums), and together they create an impeccable fusion of genres. Since 2004, they have released 6 albums, including a phenomenal cover EP, Fun Machine (2012), and their most recent studio album, Side Pony (2016). With each release, Lake Street Dive builds on their influences like the Beatles and Motown artists while honing in on their unique sound. Their lively versatility will bring a lot of fun energy to the Candler Park festival!
