2 Chainz - Pretty Girls Like Trap Music
Over the past few years, 2 Chainz has silently established himself as one of the most consistent rappers in the game with an array of solid albums, mixtapes, as well as many strong feature verses. Drake has recently given the Atlanta-based rapper high praise as being one of his favorite rappers of all time. Four years after his last solo studio album, 2 Chainz has returned with Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, which he lives up to all of the hype.
2 Chainz pulls out all of the stops on his fourth studio album in terms of features, calling on the likes of Drake, Travis Scott, and Migos. The production roster is just as star-studded with Pharrell Williams, Mike Will Made It, and Murda Beatz to name a few. As the title would have you believe, much of the album features 2 Chainz talking that talk over trap beats. From the jump, “Saturday Night” has the Atlanta rapper flexing over a piano and guitar laced with punchy trap drums. However, what makes the songs within this album different from other trap albums is the polished poise demonstrated by 2 Chainz’s flow and lyrics. He is unwavering in confidence throughout the project as he boasts his lifestyle and position in the rap game. A prime example lies in the track, “OG Kush Diet”. The FKi-produced instrumental is heavily influenced by the older trap sound from when 2 Chainz was still Tity Boi. 2 Chainz definitely feels at home here as he handles the track with such precision and assurance, even when the switch-up occurs.
The album is laced with many tracks that have the potential to become hits. “Big Amount” was previously released on Daniel Son; Necklace Don and has received a good amount of radio play. That’s usually the case when you have a Drake feature. Beyond that, “4 AM” is a song that has all the makings of one ready to blow up. With a very catchy Travis Scott hook and bouncy production by Murda Beatz, it wouldn’t be surprising if it receives some air time. Much of this album follows the formula of being tracks that pretty girls would indeed dance to at parties this summer. Within all of the bangers, 2 Chainz provides a groovy track in “It’s a Vibe” for bringing those same pretty girls home. With R&B superstars (Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz, Jhené Aiko) all over the track, you can expect to hear this record being pushed as well.
Pretty Girls Love Trap Music truly backs up Drake’s opinion that it’s 2 Chainz at his finest. The amount of hits on this album is undeniable and there are minimal skippable tracks, if any at all. One could make the case that this is his best project to date. 2 Chainz has been in the rap game for about 20 years now, but it seems like he hasn’t lost a step since being half of Playaz Circle. In fact, this project shows that he has made improvements over the years. All of this is debatable, but what you can be certain of is that you will be hearing these tracks at all of your parties this summer. Have fun with it.
