Not Bad At All

Last year I had the pleasure of connecting and doing a discover piece on Fat Camp collective member and up and coming rapper, Azair. I found it pretty refreshing that everyone in the collective, including Azair himself, rapped and produced their music- true artists. In the discover post, I mentioned that his talent was clear but he needed to clean up his sound - which less than a year later he has. His debut project, Big Mood, is a clean motivational project from a person trying to make it to the top. Some of the tracks could get some radio play and at the very least deserve a round on the aux. The best songs are "Big Mood," & "Mad at Me" with the latter being a very pop/rap radio-friendly hit. You can tell that Azair has been putting in work to perfect his craft and it's showing. This is a pretty clean and easy listen tape that will attempt to get you out of your seat and make that money; it shows from his motivation:

At the end of last year I was frustrated. I was unemployed, my music wasn't doing the numbers I wanted, and I still had the pressures of everyday life and family issues weighing on me. I think it's just that I know what I'm capable of and so I started trying to manifest things in my own ways, in my own timing. I had to let go of that pressure to get in a place where I wanted to create again and 'Big Mood' came from that place. I tapped into a pocket where I was being unapologetically expressive and fearless in my approach and I think my production and engineering skills have almost fully caught up to my songwriting capabilities. I wanted the songs to motivate and resonate with those who have a long journey ahead and are up for the challenges that comes with while providing genuinely good vibes. Didn't want to sound like I was complaining about being slept on or unappreciated of the fans I've already gained, just hungry. My numbers have been picking up on streaming and I think it's just the right time to show how much I've grown as an artist, producer, and engineer. The music has me feeling like myself again and excited about it. I know who I am and I love who I am and. That's the Big Mood.

BIG MOOD

His diverse styles of rapping makes every track unique and enjoyable with the ending track pulling in flavours from emo-rap. Overall, I give the project a 6.8/10. The sound production needs some cleaning - and that comes with funding - but it's easy to tell that he put his heart into this. Check it out here http://hyperurl.co/BIGMOOD_EP
